Margaret Hoover is an American political commentator. In addition, she is also an author, feminist, and gay rights activist. Currently, she works as a political commentator for CNN.
Margaret is also the host of WNET’s Firing Line. A best-selling author, Ms. Hoover published American Individualism: How a New Generation of Conservatives Can Save the Republican Party in 2011. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Daily News, The Daily Beast, CNN.com and FoxNews.com. She is currently a CNN political contributor, has worked for Fox News Channel, and has appeared widely on broadcast and cable television and radio. She has served on the staffs of The White House under President George W. Bush, the Department of Homeland Security, on Capitol Hill and on two presidential campaigns.
Ms. Hoover serves on the boards of Stanford University's Hoover Institution, the Hoover Presidential Foundation, and the Belgian American Educational Foundation. Raised in Colorado, Hoover has lived in China, Mexico, Bolivia and Taiwan, speaks fluent Spanish and studied Mandarin Chinese. Ms. Hoover lives in New York City with her husband John Avlon and their two children.
